Facilities Maintenance Assistant

Syndeo has a direct hire opportunity for a Facilities Maintenance Assistant at Catholic Charities in Wichita, Kansas. The Facilities Maintenance Assistant supports daily facility operations by performing routine maintenance, repairs, and custodial tasks to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment. This role works closely with the Facilities Manager to respond to work orders, assist with preventative maintenance, and support organizational events and facility needs.
Schedule: Monday – Friday 7am-4pm Availability for occasional evening, weekend, and on-call hours.
Pay: $20-$23/hour BOE
Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform general maintenance tasks including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC support.
- Landscaping and snow removal.
- Assist with troubleshooting equipment malfunctions.
- Replace light bulbs, filters, batteries, and perform other routine building upkeep tasks.
- Regular inspections of grounds, buildings, and equipment to identify and address potential issues.
- Support setup and breakdown for meetings, events, and organizational activities.
- Monitor building systems and notify leadership of irregularities or safety concerns.
Custodial Support
- Assist with cleaning, trash removal, and overall facility tidiness as needed.
- Maintain inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow safety procedures and use proper protective equipment.
- Help ensure compliance with building codes, organizational policies, and safety standards.
- Respond to emergencies such as spills, alarms, or urgent repairs.
Administrative & Support Duties
- Complete work orders and logs in a timely manner.
- Assist vendors, inspectors, or contractors when onsite.
- Assist with donation pick up, food delivery and other program-related needs
- Supervise facilities volunteers.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in facilities, maintenance, custodial work, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of building systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labor.
- Strong attention to detail and reliability.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Certifications in maintenance, HVAC, electrical, or related areas.
- Experience with facility management systems or maintenance logging software.
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
- Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Comfort working around cleaning chemicals, noise, and varying temperatures.
- Must not be afraid of heights to work on ladders and roofs as needed
